I love my kids so much, but before I had them, we had our dog, Lady Jane. She’s so pretty and has these white princess paws. She has always been pretty active and I can remember taking her for walks with me every day while I was pregnant with Maggie. We’d walk a few miles every day. We even went on quite a few walks after she was born. We all enjoyed the fresh air and the exercise.
Fast forward to today and we don’t go on as many walks but when we do, the kids argue over who gets to hold her leash. They just love it and she sort of listens to the kids. It’s a good thing we go on those walks though because she is getting pretty chubby. The kids love to feed her their leftover food every chance they get. Since I know she will get plenty of things that aren’t so good for her, I want to make sure that she gets plenty of the things that are good for her. Here are 5 things we do to spoil our fur baby.
Go for walks. Not only is it good for your furry friends but it is good for you as well. If it is as beautiful where you are as it is here this October, now would be a great time to grab that leash and head out.
Play fetch. Lady Jane loves when we throw the ball for her. I love watching how fast she is when she chases them down.
Give them a rest area. Your pup gets tired just like you do. At 8 years old, Lady Jane gets tired more than she use to. She loves her hiding spot under the piano. Why there I have no idea, but that’s where she likes to sleep so that is where we put her bed.
Personalize their dog dish. I love making personalized things for everybody, so of course I wanted to make her a pretty, personalized dog dish just for her. You can find out how to make this one in the tutorial at the bottom of the page.
Choose their food and snacks wisely. I know that she will be fed by the kids, but I want to know that her dog food and dog treats are my choice. That means, I want to choose something that has no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. When I saw these Purina Beyond White Meat Chicken Cutlets Natural Dog Snacks at Target with chicken as the #1 ingredient, I knew our Lady Jane would love them. Plus, they are made in the USA which is something I always love in a product.
Since Purina Beyond Dog Snacks are 10% off with cartwheel from 10/4-10/31, I grabbed some Purina Beyond Jerky Strips as well. Plus, I saw this handy coupon on the package so – BONUS!
As you can see, Lady Jane loves them. She’s staring me down right now waiting for me to get up and give her another treat. Spoiled dog.
Now, onto the tutorial on how to make a personalized dog dish.

To begin with, make sure you have a stencil or some sort for whatever design you choose. We used her name, Lady Jane. I printed it on vinyl using my Silhouette machine but you could cut it out of contact paper yourself or something similar. Peel the back off. Pull out the vinyl leaving only the design you want imprinted as a negative space like this:
Then apply contact paper or transfer paper over the design like this:
Stick it to the front of the dog dish, push down hard on it to be sure it sticks and remove contact paper or transfer paper.
Apply layer of mod podge or other gluelike substance.
Sprinkle thick layer of glitter over glue. Let dry for approximately 20 minutes.
Peel off stencil slowly and carefully.
Use Q-tip to clean up any excess glitter.
I like to add a layer of clear coat to my projects but it probably isn’t always necessary.
Fill with your choice of dog food and let them really enjoy their new dog dish.
