I love Christmas.  I suppose, in all honesty, that I love every holiday, but the Christmas spirit is always so exciting.  The music, the lights, picking out just the perfect gift.  There are so many great memories I have of Christmas.  When I had my first baby, I couldn’t stop thinking about Christmas and how I wanted to create so many amazing memories and traditions for our family.  Now, we just added our third baby and I’m again so excited to share our family traditions with 3 little ones and create our own perfect moments.  Here are some ideas of Christmas traditions to start with your family.

 Christmas Traditions

Christmas Eve Pajamas.  Everybody gets new pajamas to open on Christmas Eve.  Wear them to bed and you get to wake up and open gifts in spiffy new pj’s.  That way you don’t have to wait for everybody to get up and ready before you dig into the gifts because it is so hard to wait!!!  Plus, this way you can pick out jammies that match the things they love that year.  We just received these adorable Show Horses “Pasture Bedtime” Applique PJ’s from Hatley for Maggie.  Living out in the country, we see a lot of horses whenever we go somewhere.  I’m never sure what she loves more, the dog or the horses.

 Hatley Pajamas

These Hatley pajamas fit Maggie so well.  If I had to pick just one thing that I love the most about these pj’s, it would be that the shirt is longer than you find in many pajamas, so their belly stays covered all night.  No more belly peeking out and getting cold.

Hatley Pajamas Have I mentioned how ADORABLE these jammies are?  From the horse appliqué design to “Pasture Bedtime”, I smile every time she picks these out to wear to bed.  The contrasting colors look great together and the horses are such a hit that the kids just sit and talk about them all before bed.  Because Maggie is petite, the elastic waist on the bottoms is great.  Hatley pajamas are available in original prints so you know your family won’t be waking up Christmas morning in the same pajamas as all of their friends.

Choose and cut down your own Christmas tree.  This is one of my very favorite things to do each year.  Here is is, barely November, and I am already eyeing up the room and smiling thinking back to last years tree and how much fun we had picking it out and cutting it down, then decorating with the Christmas music in the background.

New ornaments for the entire family.  This is one of my favorite traditions.  I love picking out ornaments for each of the kids and for John.  John even gets excited to pick out an ornament for each of the kids and for me.  The kids’ Grandma gets all of the grandkids on my side of the family an ornament too.  I love looking back through the years at pictures of everybody sitting together with their new ornament.  Yet another way to give little gifts that go along with what they love and are really into at the time.  We also get a family ornament each year which is so much fun!

String popcorn.

Go caroling.

Baking cookies.  We go to an annual cookie exchange, but we use to all get together and bake the cookies together as a family back when the cousin’s were all little.  Last year, we invited some friends over for cookie baking fun and cannot wait to do it again!

12 Days of Christmas Books.  We are such book lovers here, so I really love this idea.  12 days, 12 books.  For ideas on how to make this very affordable, you can read this post on how to build an almost free book library.
