Do you ever have those days where you feel run ragged? You go and go and go all day and night without a break from those 3 gorgeous little faces, everybody needs something from you and all you really need is a quick 5 minutes to yourself to remind yourself that you really are awesome and you can do it? I do. I can tell when I’ve reached my breaking point because I’m a little snappy and just not enjoying those 3 smiling faces like I want to. .
Pretty much the only break I get is when one of my friends stops by and the kids are all so busy playing nicely that we get to actually just sit down and chat. When she is here, she always helps clean up the dishes or wash down something that looks pretty hideous. She is an amazing friend, and I wanted to find a way to thank her. She is having a baby in a few months and I know she is going to be busy with 3 little ones soon too. I thought it would be a nice way to thank her for bringing sanity to my life 5 minutes at a time by making her a Busy Moms Happy Hour Kit. And by happy hour, I mean, grab however many minutes you can sneak before you get busted. I can’t wait to give her kit to her when I see her later this week, but I couldn’t help getting myself a little something too.
When we were at Walmart last week, I was browsing the aisles looking for something to put in her happy hour kit. I had some ideas but wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted until I saw it. I picked up some crafting supplies and then hit up the grocery aisles. After all, since I know she LOVES her coffee, I had to pick her up some iced coffee. I opted for the Skinny Cow® Mocha Latte Creamy Iced Coffee since I could get her a Skinny Cow treat too. Now, to decide which one! I also grabbed her a box of Skinny Cow® Blissful Truffle Candy Bars because they sound so absolutely amazing and I want her to indulge herself! Do you know how long it took me to decide between the milk chocolate and the dark chocolate? {Seriously, I bought 2 boxes. Possibly because I ate the first box, but they are so yummy and they just melt in your mouth}. I really love that you can break of just a bite and eat it if you don’t have time for an entire candy bar. Since I clearly have no self control to keep these in my house, I grabbed some Skinny Cow® Vanilla Almond Crunch Bars for myself to indulge in. After all, I need a treat too.
To make her easel sign, I used 2 sheets of scrapbook paper, some double sided tape and an easel. The first piece of scrapbook paper I used was vellum and I just cut out the saying I wanted.
Then I used the double sided tape to stick it onto the other piece.
Then I cut about 1/4 inch all around the saying.
I glued it onto the easel and was done. It took about 5 minutes and cost about $3.00. I hope it will be a great pick me up when she needs a break.
Since I had everything I needed to make her happy hour gift, I figured I better get it made before I ate another box of Skinny Cow® Blissful Truffle Candy Bars. I had this adorable plate that I had been waiting to use. That was going to be my “basket”. I used a mix of glue and double sided tape to hold it all together.
Using a flower and some burlap ribbon for decoration, I gathered the other items that I thought would be perfect for her. Then, I added her little sign to remind her of her awesomeness every day. These happy hour kits make the perfect gift for any family or friend that could use a break. What you put in it is totally up to you but below are some of my favorite ideas to take 5 and indulge yourself. I also added in a bottle of Joy essential oil because I love the scent. It’s uplifting and helps me reset when I’m ready to lose it.
Book. There was a brief period of time awhile back where my kids would see me go to the bathroom, come in, tell me they were going to leave me alone, and go out of the bathroom, shut the door and play. It didn’t go on for too long, but at least a few weeks and I quickly started stashing my book in the bathroom. If they were going to bless me with some time alone, I was going to take it!
Game on your phone. If reading isn’t your thing, or even if it is, playing a game you like on your phone is a great quick break for you. My game of choice is Candy Crush {I am on level 908 if you are wondering}. If I can sneak a few minutes, I grab my phone and play a game or two.
Puzzle. If you have a spot that you can keep it set up to do a little at a time, a puzzle would be a great way to get some me time.
TV. Call me crazy, but when the kids are in bed, I cannot wait to sit down with a mommy treat and a TV show. Most of the shows I love aren’t really appropriate for my kiddos, so that’s when I really get my mommy time. Disrupted repeatedly by the baby and a 2 and 4 year old who wake up for whatever reason. I never get a full hour to myself, so I watch recorded shows so I can skip over the commercials.
Something to drink. Or eat. No matter what I really love to do, read, play games, do a puzzle, etc., if I can do it quietly enough, I will sneak a treat while the kids are in the other room. Skinny Cow® treats are some of our favorites. Whether it’s the iced coffee or the candy bars for my friend, or the crunch bars for me, it’s a little happy hour treat for myself every time.
How do you indulge yourself when you get some me time? Do you spend that time hiding out in your bathroom or do you really treat yourself? What Skinny Cow® treats are your favorite?
It sounds like you have an amazing friend. I hope that she enjoys her basket of goodies.
She is wonderful! My life is much better with her in it. I hope she does too.
How awesome. I love spending time with a good book, essential oils and a bath.
Oooh, that sounds like a nice relaxing time. Except every time I try to take a bath, I end up with 3 kids in the tub with me. It’s no longer relaxing then, haha.
All that’s missing is a bottle of wine and I’d be in seventh heaven. I love how you made the little sign.
Oh my gosh! How did I forget to include that? Well, I suppose because my friend who this is for is pregnant. But wine should be a part of everything, right?!
I love the idea of a happy hour kit!

If it includes a book I’m in. What a cute way to enjoy the evening.

That may be my favorite part of summer. The kids are so busy playing outside that I can actually grab my book and relax a bit.
What a great gift idea. I like the self indulgence part. I know I don’t do that enough.

Me neither! If I manage to get some time alone, I spend most of it thinking of what I can do with the kids.
What a perfect idea!!! Can I add a bottle of wine with that?? 🙂

I would definitely say that coffee and a good book are at the top of my lists. I love the cute little sign on a wooden easel that you created!
