I apologize in advance for you scratching your head nonstop right now. I know, this lice subject always gets you itching.
A little over a year ago, we discovered that lice had found their way into our hair. I was so disgusted, and frustrated. We had a brand new baby and now I had to do all of our hair. Not only that but I had to wash every single stuffed animal, blankets, pillows, dress up clothes. I cannot explain to you the hideous amount of laundry I was doing. Then I had to do it all over again for the second round of treatments. Maggie has long hair. Mine is even longer and there was no way I was going to be able to do it myself John wasn’t thrilled when I put him to work. Anyways, after dumping a bunch of money into lice treatment and tons of hours getting things cleaned up, we finally got rid of it and my hope is to NEVER again have to deal with it.
I knew that I had something in my essential oils arsenal to help and here is what we came up with. Our own DIY lice prevention spray. It only takes a few minutes to make and with a quick spray every day, we can help prevent lice from visiting our house again.
Ingredients
- 10 drops Lavender essential oil or 10 drops Melaleuca Alternifolia {Tea Tree}oil {you can use both, either decrease the number of drops of each, or use a little more water}
- 10 drops Rosemary essential oil
- 5 drops Peppermint essential oil {optional}
- 8 to 10 Ounces Distilled water
- Glass Spray Bottle
If you are using pure essential oils, you want to use a glass bottle. Fill with 8 ounces of distilled water. Add 10 drops of lavender or tea tree oil and 10 drops of rosemary essential oil. You can add in 5 drops of peppermint oil as well if you want, if so, use 10 ounces of water. In my opinion, tea tree oil is pretty strong smelling and not one of my favorites. The lavender helps balance that out but if it still bothers you, adding a few drops of peppermint will help.
