Even baby’s bum is ahead of the game with Smart Bottoms #FreshFluff

*I received the product mentioned below for the purpose of this review.  All opinions are 100% my own.*

After using pocket diapers for the better part of the last almost 3 years, I have developed a love for AIO’s or All in Ones.  Awhile back, I had won a Smart Bottoms Smart One 3.0, and it quickly became one of my favorites.  I was stoked when Christy agreed to work with me on a review {and a giveaway} because I couldn’t wait to tell you all about this diaper.

Smart Bottoms Logo

Smart Bottoms PinThe Smart One 3.0 is an all in one cloth diaper.  The inside is made from 100% organic cotton.  The liner is attached at the back, and can be folded however you need it to provide the most absorbency for your child – a total of 10 layers of absorbency!  Because the insert is attached only at one end, the diaper dries very quickly.  The outside of the diaper is made from PUL Polyester.

The Smart One 3.0 is also a one size diaper, fitting from 8-35 pounds.  The size is adjusted by snapping and unsnapping the rise snaps on the front of the diaper.  The snaps adjust to 4 different rise settings.  With 3 snaps across for each setting, there is no big bulge in the middle.

The front of the diaper has a double row of 8 snaps to allow for great adjustability in the waist.  Each wing has 3 snaps preventing wing droop and keeping the diaper in place so even a busy toddler doesn’t have leaks.  For those with very well endowed baby waists, there are even waist extenders available for purchase.

The Smart One 3.0 has wider, gentler elastic in the legs to avoid red marks.  The elastic on the back of the diaper contains those messes your little one is sure to make.  We have on occasion had red marks on Charlie’s back from this diaper, but since they aren’t there all of the time when he wears it, I think it is likely that I had it a little tight on him.
Now, the real test of any new diaper in our house comes when John puts it on Charlie.  With The Smart One 3.0, we have a winner.  The very first time John put it on him, he said, hey, I really like this diaper.  It seems like it would be comfortable for Charlie and it’s easy to put on.  Daddy approved!  Thanks Smart Bottoms.

I love how the diaper fits on Charlie, and I really love the fantastic colors!  I am generally a big fan of prints, and Smart Bottoms only has a few, but I really like the colors.  They aren’t the same old ones I see everywhere.  Plus, Christy has taken a plain, solid colored diaper and snazzed it up by adding bright colored snaps to contrast the diaper.  The brown is my favorite, and the one we received, but now, there is a gorgeous new gray with blue snaps that I would love to have.
Visit Smart Bottoms and let me know which color you love best.  Right now, you can WIN a Smart Ones 3.0 of your very own as part of the Fresh Fluff Laundry Hop Grand Prize.

  • I have some BumGenius Freetimes that are similar, but this diaper seems more customizable with having one long insert to fold. Love that feature!

  • I like that the insert can be customized to be thicker in certain spots. It is super cute, too. Is it not an added layer of difficulty for dad (or grandma, or whoever doesn’t do a lot of diapering) to have to fold it into the diaper appropriately?

    • It may be, but John doesn’t seem to think so. Since he complains about many different ones, and he likes this one a lot, it must be easy enough.

  • I have been looking at these diapers for a while. I love the gorilla blue. Funny because I like the solids with these diapers way better than the prints.

  • These diapers look like they’re would last a long time. Very well made, 10 layers of absorbency is impressive and very adjustable to grow with baby! 🙂

  • these are my fav diapers ever. I love how they fit and how well they preform. I wish I had an entire stash of them!!

  • I love that it’s fast drying, and organic! Also seems very adjustable for a long lifespan. I’d like to try one of these. AIOs seem very convenient despite having more to wash and longer drying time than prefolds/fitteds. It would be good to have a few in my stash.

  • I really like that the insert can be folded to where you need the most absorbency. These also look like they would dry fairly quick.

  • These are super cute and look very easy to use. I would love to try these over my cheap diapers we have now.

  • Thank you for your review. Though I’ve watched a bunch of cloth diaper videos on YouTube and follow the CD board on Baby Center, up until this point I had yet to see the sort of detail on an AI1 that you showed and have only been considering purchasing pocket diapers. Now I have something else to consider and will add Smart Bottoms to list of 5 or so types I plan to buy to start out. Baby is due in February!

  • It looks rather like a cross between a BG old-style Elemental and a Chelory Organic AIO, both of which I LOVE. And super affordable! I definitely need to pick one of these up.

  • seems very adjustable for a long lifespan. I’d like to try one of these. AIOs seem very convenient despite having more to wash and longer drying time than prefolds/fitted

  • I like how you can fold it the way you need it most. I’ve been looking for something else to try instead of double stuffing which can make it so balky.

  • I have there pail liner in Avocado and I would love to try there diapers. love the colors and the snaps

  • I love the rich colors of these diapers. We have been using the Flip diapering system and the colors do not seem as vibrant. I also love how the liner is actually attached to the back as well. I may need to rethink my system!

  • love the flexibility of this diaper with the insert and it being an AIO, Seems like it is combining the best of a few different styles in one, very “smart” 😉

  • I really like these diapers– the inserts are the best– I love the different sizing with the little snaps– it looks to be well put together–thanks for a great review

  • I really like how well it seems to fit and all the snaps it has to ensure a great fit. Would love to try this diaper on my two babies!

  • This seems like a great AIO, I’d really like to try it. I originally had tried pocket diapers and loved them thinking I wouldn’t like anything better. Then I picked up some second hand AIO’s and was surprised to realize I liked them even better. These AIO’s snap and grow like my pocket diaps but with all the convenience of an AIO. I think this might be a match made in heaven.

  • I Love these diapers and wish I could have more of them! The fit is great and trim and was on my little guy almost from the start, and the soaker is quick dry without being awkward to fold like bGEs!

  • I love them because they are not to far away from me so my carbon foot track is not all that bad When I order this brand

  • I’m excited about the possibility of getting some of these for my stash. I like that the inside is 100% organic cotton and the diaper is made in the USA.

  • I absolutely love that they can snap to four different sizes, most all in ones that I have seen only snap to three different sizes! I would love to try a few of these out <3

  • I love the Wild Thing print, and the Berry Berry color. This reminds me of the original BG Elemental which is one of my favorite diapers.

  • Did your husband have trouble trying to figure out how to position the insert? That’s my worry – otherwise I think he’ll handle it fine.

    • No, he loves this diaper. The insert is narrow enough that it doesn’t end up sticking out the sides of the diaper as he puts it on Charlie. And he just folds the insert in half instead of folding it to get the most absorbency.

  • I just love the snaps so that way you can us the same diaper and don’t have to go out buy another size. Unless you it a one size that you just can’t live with out that one diaper that has just the cuties some thing on it.

  • love that there are 4 sets of rise snaps – very adjustable! and that i can fold it however i like to customize for both daughter and son!

  • This looks like a really great fitting diaper! I really like the Berry Berry color! Would be great for my baby girl!

  • I still have not tried AIO and would love to!! We currently use prefolds and covers for the price 🙂 I like that this diaper is fast drying and looks very absorbent!!

  • I would love to try out a diaper like this. It’s nice how you can change where you need the more absorbancy, so it can be used for both boys and girls.

  • These diapers look really comfortable. I have never tried all in ones yet, but I really want too. I will keep this brand in mind.

  • Thank you for the review. I am yet to try smart bottoms but I keep hearing positive comments about them and have been searching for a review! I think I just added another diaper to my “need to try” list!

  • wow, innovative high tech cloth diapers! who knew? lol with all the different size adjusting snaps, they look polka-dotted brown and teal. great color combo! can toddlers get those snaps unsnapped?

  • I love these! I have a new grandbaby and would love to try these with her. I am getting one to try and see if a change can be made.

  • I love cloth diapers that’s why aside from buying, I keep on joining giveaways and I wont stop until I win even just a piece! LoL

  • Ah, I love those 100% cotton insides! I also love that you can arrange the insert for additional absorbency for my son up front.

  • Thanks for the review:) I think the Smartbottoms prints are really cute, too. I also like the design of the insert….easy enough, yet customizable!

  • wow i love how much customization you can do so its a good fit for your child..so much better than regular diapers.

  • I don’t have any AIOs, and I have completed my stash, but Smartbottoms is one that I would like to try if I could. Winning one would be awesome.

  • I love that it can be folded differently according to the sex of the baby..brilliant. Thanks for such a wonderful review!!

  • I love that the Smart One has 4 rise settings; my son is starting to grow out of his other diapers (BG, BB, Thirsties, RaR)

  • I’m all for AIOs. I hate stuffing diapers and I’m getting rid of pockets in favor of AIO or AI2 styles. I like the customizable insert placement – it would be nice to have extra absorbancy for my heavy wetter son, but flexibility if we have a daughter in the future.

  • I have been wanting to try these diapers since I started CD 2 years ago with my oldest! I LOVE that the wings have hip snaps and I love that it can go all the way to XS in the sizing! I also love the way the AIO insert is long allows for folding to be personalized to each baby’s needs! Such a great diaper!! I may have to talk hubby into some using your review 🙂 hehe!

  • Thank you for this review! I too am a pocket gal, but I have a few all in ones that work similar, so I appreciated your comment about these smart bottoms; I’ll have to give them a shot!

  • i love my pockets and just can’t seem to find any aio and ai2 love. you really make me want this diaper to try. my only aio i love is my bg elemental. this looks so much better. love that you can customize the liner.

  • I like the way you can customize the insert for boy or girl. I also like that it is an all in one but since the insert is not sewn all the way in, it will dry quicker.

    • I love AIO’s. My biggest problem that I use to have with them is that they take longer to dry, but with these diapers, they dry just as quickly.

  • These look very user friendly! I am a first time cloth user, and these diapers seem like they would be great for beginners! I also love that it’s a one size fits all kind of diaper – I won’t have to buy numerous sizes of them!

  • (Even baby’s bum is ahead of the game with Smart Bottoms) These look like some really nice cloth diapers for babies. I wish they would have had these when my grown kids were younger.
