Do you love Learning Resources as much as I do? I love that their products have multiple uses. Every single thing we have from Learning Resources is still being used on a regular basis at our house. I really love that they are great tools to add to any homeschooling program.
It is that time of year again where farm animals are a big hit. Living out in the country, we see lots of farm animals AND their babies. Our favorites are the cows and their babies. We like to pull over and count the animals and talk about their colors, but some days, that doesn’t fit into our plans. That is where things like the In the Barn Farm Counters are fantastic to have.
The In the Barn Farm Counters come in a set of 72 counters. There are 6 different animals, cow, duck, pig, sheep, goat, rooster/hen, and horse in 6 different colors, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. There are 2 of each animal in each color. And, like all of their counters, they include a storage bucket and activity guide. These counters are smaller than the jumbo animal counters, and are up to 1.25″ tall, and up to 2″ long.
There are so many things my almost 2 year old and my 3 year old can learn with the In the Barn Farm Counters. With Charlie, we can working on identifying animals and the sounds they make, as well as naming colors and separating by color or animal. We also practice counting them, but his favorite is just lining them up. With Maggie, we can take it up a notch, and do more than just counting and sorting. We can talk about how if there are 3 cows and we add one more, how many cows are there now? We can also practice simple and complex patterns. She also likes to talk about what the animals like to do on the farm. The pigs like the mud, the ducks like to go in the pond, etc. She loves to group together as many animals as she can, before Charlie breaks in, and just play with them.
There are a lot of pieces, but sometimes, we like to take these to a restaurant with us because there are so many different ways to play with them.

My grandson and I would use these to play with his little farm set that he already has.
What wouldn’t we do would be the shorter answer! LOL. Practicing counting, patterns, adding, subtracting, colors, etc. 🙂
We would use it to learn addition!
I would use them in our preschool/kindergarten homeschool math activities!!
We would practice counting!
My toddler daughter is learning her basic numbers, so we would work on basic counting.
I would practice counting and colors with this.
I think my daughter would just take them out of the container and put them back in (she loves doing that right now!) I would love to use these to help with her counting, she can count to 12, but I would love to work on the higher up numbers!
We would definitely play farm as my son loves to do that with his tractors.
We have a little barn we can put animals in and a fence that they can count the animals in that.
