#gbgreenfam Glow Bug Cloth Diaper review

#gbgreenfam Glow Bug Cloth Diaper review

As part of the Green Family Giveaway #gbgreenfam event, I was given the chance to review a Glow Bug Cloth Diaper.  I have reviewed one before, but was super happy to have the chance again because we just had a boy and John was giving me dirty looks for even thinking of using our other Glow Bug diaper on him because it screams girliness!  This time – we received the guitar print and love it!
Glow Bug Cloth Diapers was started by two moms – Neta and Sarah who  had become friends during a prenatal yoga class.  In 2007, they were both blessed with sweet little babies and they both enjoyed using cloth diapers.  In 2010 after they each had another baby, they were looking for new cloth diapers.  All they wanted were good quality, affordable cloth diapers but were having a hard time finding that.  Their solution?  Start their own company selling amazing quality cloth diapers at an even greater price!

Neta, Edder, Sarah and Gloria

Neta and Sarah realized there were probably lots of other parents out there wanting to use cloth diapers, but intimidated by the cost of investing in good quality diapers.
They decided to call their company Glow Bug because that’s Sarah’s nickname for Gloria (her sweet little girl) and because she always thought a baby in cloth diapers looks like a cute little bug!

I have 2 little testers to check this diaper out on.  Maggie is my sweet little 23 pound almost 2 year old.  Charlie is my handsome little 13 pound almost 3 month old.  Charlie man tested out this diaper a ton of times because it is one of the few cute boy prints that we have!
For Charlie, we have it snapped down to the smallest rise setting.  For Maggie, we have it on the next smallest rise setting.

Glow Bug Cloth Diapers have 4 size settings to fit babies from 7 lbs to 35 lbs.

I love that our Glow Bug diapers have 2 sets of cross over snaps to get a perfect fit on any newborn.

We didn’t have the diaper when he was brand new, so we didn’t need to use them, but I am impressed with how tiny the waist setting can get.  We do use the crossover snaps if we are out and about and have a poop – or if Maggie decides she needs to help me carry it to the laundry room we use them so she doesn’t get poop all over!  I wish we had had this diaper when he was a newborn because the leg openings get really tiny when using the double crossovers.  I would even be confident using this to contain big blowouts because of the double gussets.

The double gussets happen to be John’s favorite feature of any cloth diaper and if he chooses which diaper they wear, he almost always chooses one with double gussets.  Whether it was Maggie or Charlie, this diaper held up to the stinky messes and was able to fully contain them.  When Charlie wore his Glow Bug Cloth Diaper, we did experience quite a few leaks, but we haven’t found any microfiber inserts that absorb enough to keep this from happening.  This guy pees so much!  Maggie was able to wear this diaper overnight without any leaks using only one insert, so I know it is able to absorb quite a bit.
There are 2 rows of snaps across the front of the diaper and wings to get a great fit no matter what size your baby is.  Because of the square tabs, it stretches a bit more across the hip for a trimmer fit.
Glow Bug Cloth Diapers are a cinch when it comes to doing laundry!  You can leave the insert snapped in when you wash, so you don’t have to stick your hand in a dirty diaper to unstuff it.  When your laundry is done,  the insert is usually still attached and has turned the diaper inside out.  Because the insert stays attached, it eliminates the step of finding which insert matches which diaper.  If you are like me (and many other mamas I know), this is a big help!  I hate when I can’t find which insert goes with which diaper.  If you want to add extra absorbency, the pocket on the diaper has an opening at both ends and is big enough even for daddy hands.  This is great for adjusting the insert when it comes out of the wash, and for adding more inserts.

There are also waterproof flaps at both ends of the diaper so the wetness doesn’t wick out onto your little ones clothes if you accidentally don’t get it all tucked in.  I love this feature!  John just changes them, and some diapers when he puts them on have the inside turned out just enough to cause their clothes to get wet.   With this diaper, I don’t have to check to be sure he has it all tucked in.

If you have never used a diaper with snap in inserts – I highly recommend it!  The snap in insert helps keep the insert in place while baby is moving all around.
The stay dry inner lining of the diaper makes this a great choice for Maggie to wear to bed at night.  She wakes up if she pees and won’t go to sleep again until she has a dry diaper on, so using a diaper with a stay dry inside definitely helps her to sleep longer.  This is an especially important feature for us when using diapers on Charlie.  He has really sensitive skin and gets rashes pretty much nonstop.  Using stay dry inner diapers helps them from getting really bad.  His skin still stays red, but not bright red like it does from some diapers.  The elastic on these diapers is so gentle yet stretchy so we get a great fit and no red marks!
And to add to the cuteness factor of the guitar print – the snaps are color coordinating to match the diaper.  The yellow snaps match perfectly with the diaper.
I LOVE how trim this diaper is on both kids.  When I started using the one size diapers instead of the newborn diapers, I was really concerned with how bulky diapers would be on Charlie.  There are some diapers that we won’t use on him because of this, but we are definitely comfortable putting our Glow Bug Cloth Diaper on him because of how trim it fits.  He can easily wear his little baby jeans over this diaper.

I definitely recommend getting a pack of Glow Bug Cloth Diapers for your little ones!  I really have nothing bad to say about these diapers.  I love that they carry such cute prints and they aren’t the same ones you see through so many other brands!  The only thing I would change about Glow Bug Cloth Diapers would be to have hemp or – even better – bamboo inserts!
