Harvest Time

I am so excited that we actually started a garden this year. I had wanted to have one last year, but John wanted to do it his way, so it never got done. This year, I made sure we had a garden. I won’t lie. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, but I went to the store, bought {way too many} seeds, and read the backs of each packet. We didn’t plant a ton this year, but did plant green beans, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, watermelon and snap peas. Our snap peas and green beans have done amazing through the summer. I think the romaine did too, but I didn’t really know what I was doing or when it was ready to pick, so it all went bad and we didn’t eat any of it. Very sad about that! The last month or so we have been picking carrots and cucumbers almost daily. Well, cucumbers anyways. The carrots were hit or miss since only half of the row actually grew into plants. Our watermelon are growing. They are so cute and tiny right now. I planted them later than I should have, so I’m not sure if it will end up getting too cold out and they won’t be able to grow into watermelons to eat or not. We will see.

Anyways, today we went out and got started picking some carrots and cucumbers since we haven’t been out there for the last few days because we were gone for the weekend. The kids were having an absolute blast picking the food. I guess it stormed pretty good here over the weekend, and my cucumber plants look pretty awful. There are still probably 20, most likely more, cucumbers that are pretty small still. I am waiting to see if they keep growing or if the plants died while I was gone. Anyways though, check out our harvest from today. I am pretty proud of our garden and cannot wait for it to be even bigger and better next year.

Do you have a garden?  Is this your first year or are you a pro?
