Our Adventures in Potty Training Take 1

I am really linking up to Manic Mommy Monday.  It’s been awhile.  It seems like we have had constant chaos lately.  I have so many posts to catch up on, but I am writing this one!

One of my uncles died and we just got home from Wisconsin last night.  It’s so sad.  He was found dead in his trailer on the 9th, but they think he actually died on the 2nd.  We spent our time on Mother’s Day planning out part of the funeral stuff.  The funeral was Friday, and we took the rest of the weekend to actually enjoy the cabin.  We will always miss Uncle Denny 🙁

Then we got home last night and Buddy Boy (one of our dogs) was missing.  Luckily, he finally showed back up, he usually comes back, but it’s been quite awhile since he took off.  I was quite stressed until I heard him scratching at the door.

Now…onto the real post topic.  I started potty training Maggie a few weeks ago.  She is 19 months old but doing really well….when we actually work on it.  In all fairness to her, she pretty much poops in the potty all the time.  Backwards from most kids I think.  Sometimes, it takes a half hour for it to happen, but she pretty much always poops in the potty.  I have brought the potty chair out into the kitchen because she lets me know she has to go, sits, has to stand up, then sits again.  She will pee in the potty sometimes, but she doesn’t get all antsy and know to go sit on her potty yet for that, so we have to work on it.  The first time, we were up visiting my friends in Duluth and she wanted me to go potty but I was planning to shower.  She started crying so I took off her diaper to let her hop in with me and noticed the nasties she was about to release.  She went in the potty.  Yay!  Now I know her signs that she has to go.   We don’t have any trainers of any sort yet so she either goes naked or wears a diaper, so that is slowing down our progress.  I have had to clean up lots and lots of pee lately!

The other day, she had to poop so she did just a tiny bit in her potty seat, stood up, said goodbye to it and waved and then made me dump it into the big potty before she would finish going.  This was seriously the funniest thing I have ever seen!  I am so very proud of my little monkey!  She would probably be doing better, but I was really tired for the first week or so and just didn’t bother to take off her diaper and let her sit on the potty.

Last night, when I put her to bed, she woke up and sat up there for awhile saying uh-oh over and over and over.  I finally went to check on her.  She had pee’d in her diaper.  Obviously that was not okay with her.  I changed her and back to sleep she went.

On a side note, 5 weeks from today this baby in my belly is due to make his or her arrival!  I am so excited!!!

  • Wow, I would sure love for you to help me potty train my two and a half year old. She is so stubborn. She doesn’t want to do it and you can’t make her. I know she is ready though, so in a few weeks I am going to pick back up on the training. We have be lacking on it, because it was stressing us both out. I think that she is almost there though. Congrats on that I hope it continues to go well.

    • Thank you! I know, I can’t believe how easy she has been so far. With some real effort on my part it will be better. Maggie absolutely loves it! I am lucky. When I use to teach 2 year olds, I spent all day potty training so I got a lot of experience and fun ideas, although it’s much different in a setting where “all of their friends are doing it.” I have been curious if it’s just her awesomeness or if the cloth diapers have something to do with it. Good luck in your potty training adventures!
