Our quest on raising drug free kids

About 8 years ago, I hurt my back.  Really bad, I had a bulging disc in my lower back and I was pretty sure I was dying. It hurt so much, you could visibly see me shaking from pain from across the room.  The worker’s comp doctors were a joke.  Here you go, take these muscle relaxers, but we won’t write you a note to get out of work.  Oh yeah, don’t drive while taking them.  What, you drive as part of your job?  Oh well, don’t take the meds then.  Bad situation, yes.  No end in sight, yes.  What did I do?  I went to a chiropractor, I figured it couldn’t hurt.  I had never been to see one before, had my sister google it and find me one.  She was amazing!  She assured me that she could get me back in working order, but it would take close to a year.  She encouraged me and informed me of many things I didn’t realize.  Eventually, I realized that she was right.  The medicine wasn’t the answer, getting rid of the drugs and toxins was a big step to getting where I wanted to be.
It was a long road, but I quit taking the muscle relaxers, tylenol, ibuprofen and guess what?  My back was healing, I wasn’t getting sick anymore.  The chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus infections, they were all gone.  I was the healthiest I had ever been.  It wasn’t short term either, it has lasted since then.  It’s amazing.
Now that we have kids of our own, I have noticed our dislike for people that want to give kids drug for everything.  We have given our kids medicine, but are trying to find more natural remedies.  I am becoming more knowledgeable.  There is a lot I still don’t know.  I love that we have a doctor who understands and respects our choices and doesn’t try to get us to give our kids medicine when it is something that isn’t necessary.  Our goal?  To be 100% drug free.  If you are looking for a  naturopathic physician in Scottsdale, be sure to check out Dr. Krystal Tellier.  We have a house down in Arizona, and I know that I would definitely give her a phone call if we needed a doctor in the area.

  • I love going having a chiropractor! I used to get really bad headaches and now, as long as I stay on track with my visits, I rarely have headaches. I know what you mean about some parents giving their kids drugs for everything! I know a few moms that give tylenol when their kids get whiny! I do use tylenol/advil but only for fevers!
