My worst injury ever happened when I was 14 years old. I was a cheerleader, and always doing cheers and the splits and whatnot. At the time, there was a country music video with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders where they jumped up, did the splits and landed on the ground.
Of course, I was equally as cool as they were, and did this too. I did this all the time. Well, one day, I had been out practicing in the yard and then stopped. Later that day, I went back outside to practice this again (Okay, so I know, I am a dork…it’s okay :)) I didn’t stretch again and I ended up tearing the muscle off of my pelvic bone; or at least this was how it was described to me. I heard it rip, and it hurt like crazy!!!! I was sure I was going to die.
I spent a year on crutches. I had to completely retrain the muscle what to do. I couldn’t sit or stand too long at a time. I only spent half a day at school each day because of that, and alternated which half of the day it was. I would be healing nicely, then go off my crutches, and end up overdoing it just a bit. Then I would be back on crutches yet again.
Moral of the story……..stretch before doing this sort of exercise!!!
Time to share….what is the worst injury you have had and how did it happen?
OWWWWWWW!!!!!! Normally posts like these don’t make me flinch, but I cringed like crazy!
The injury posts are tough to read!
ouch. How are you doing with the injury now?
It’s fine now. I don’t notice a difference at all. For years, that leg was just extra limber and easy to stretch out. Now…(I may be a bit older than I was then) I’m not that limber anymore so I can’t even tell that it ever happened.
You had me cringing at Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Haha!
haha. Funny!
one year.. @.@ I can sense how bad it was… huhu..
It was a long year.
OMG OWWWW
Yes, I still hear the ripping sound if I think about it too much.
Ouch! As a former gymnast I feel your pain, I dislocated my hip when my coach tried to push me too far.
Ugh. That stinks! I can’t imagine how much that hurt.
My stomach just flopped – Ouch! How painful, and how awful to be on crutches for that long!
I’m glad it is over now. I don’t know how I would even function on crutches for a few days now.
