Fitness Guru or Couch Potato? Loaded question. Right now, I am 38.5 weeks pregnant, and sadly, I lean more towards couch potato. At least as much as I can with a 20 month old. I actually love to work out and this makes me feel lazy. With my daughter, I still walked at least a mile a day right up until the delivery. Not this time. Sometimes walking downstairs is too much fitness for me!
That being said, I do still go to the gym. Not 5-6 days a week, or even 3-4, but I do still try to make it for a half hour work out at least once a week. Before I got pregnant with this baby, I had hired a personal trainer who was kicking my butt! I met with her 3 times a week for an hour, then did an hour of cardio after our session. Once my training sessions were over, I still went 5-6 times a week and did an hour of cardio daily followed by an hour of strength training at least 3-4 days a week.
I have tons of workout equipment at the house, but working out with a child around just isn’t happening. I have tried. I joined the gym because (well….it’s really cheap) I was losing my mind! Maggie is always with me and I LOVE that, but it was taking a toll on my mental health because she has never napped good without being close to me, so I didn’t even get a naptime break during the day. Some days my workout was cut short because she wouldn’t stop crying, but most days, I got an hour or two to myself.
Now….my hour of cardio could be better. I could push myself harder, but truth be told, I love being able to workout hard but still read my book. It was peaceful for me but I worked up quite a sweat and burned lots of calories. I am excited to start working out harder again in the next few months, but we shall see what happens.
I also play softball (when I’m not extremely pregnant) and I use to play roller derby, so I am not lazy by any means, but I am not as dedicated as I could be to working out.
So, in answer to the question fitness guru or couch potato? I definitely bounce between them.
You are right, it is difficult to work out with a child! Congrats on your pregnancy..baby is coming soon:-)
Thank you! Very soon. I’m excited!
I am sure that you will get back in to your old routine, or one like it, soon enough! Congrats on the baby!
Thanks! I’m curious to see how it goes, but with a toddler, I’m sure I will at least be running around more than I did with just her.
Wow – still going to the gym at 38.5 weeks pregnant – I’m impressed! Certainly having a child changes everything… and then being pregnant too… I think it sounds like you are doing pretty good! Congrats on your baby! Hope your delivery goes well!! 🙂
Yeah, I think I’m supermom when I get to the gym! Thank yoU!
I think it’s ok to be a little bit of a couch potato at 38 weeks pregnant!! Good luck, mama! 🙂
Haha. Thanks!
