It’s time to get excited about science again. Supercharged Science is an e-Science Homeschool Science Curriculum is making science fun and exciting with experiments using simple materials you probably have around your house. Now – you may have heard me mention before that my kids, especially my boys, are constantly creating their own science experiments and I don’t always know until I discover a strange smell or container of something. While I love their enthusiasm and creativity, I like being able to guide their experiments a little bit.
To get started, you can choose an activity based on either topic or grade level. We opted to choose based on grade level. It was broken down into three sections for second grade. Life Science, Earth Science, and Chemistry. This is such a simple to follow science curriculum that your child could easily follow along with the lesson on their own. Each of the options is full of fun science experiments your kids will be excited about.
Each lesson is made up of four parts: introduction, reading, experiments and videos, and exercises {worksheets}. The videos are short clips that talk a little about the experiment before your child begins the activities. I let the kids choose which experiment they want to work on that day which adds to the excitement of science.
Since my oldest is eight-years-old, I still tend to stay close as they work. I listen to them read about it so if they have any questions, I can answer them. Then we get to the really fun stuff. I love the worksheets that you can print out with the activities. They really teach them about the scientific method of learning and recording your thoughts, observations, and results.
My six-year-old is obsessed with rocks, so the luster experiment was a hit! I wish I had planned a little better because I have a friend who has mined gold so it would have been cool to have him bring some over for this experiment. The worksheets are laid out so well – an overview, what to learn, materials and the experiment. Enter your data in the table or whatever that day may include. Then finish up with the exercises or questions about what you have learned that day. For those who want it – the last page also includes the answers to the exercises which is helpful.
One of our all-time favorite science activities that is so fun for all the kids is density. We strayed a bit from the worksheet for this because I just pulled out whatever I had in the cupboards. They each took turns experimenting with different layers and talking about whether that thing they added stayed at the top or sunk to the bottom. The kids could do this experiment for hours! This is one we have done before but we bust it out a few times a year because it’s so much fun. They also think it’s fun to wear the safety goggles and gloves for each experiment.
You can also complete the level evaluation to see how much your children have learned.
We are having a ton of fun with Supercharged Science and will continue using this curriculum. The kids love it and love being in charge of what experiment we do. You don’t have to take our word for it though – check out what other families are saying about Supercharged Science by clicking the image below.
