Since we have been going through the oils one by one that are part of the Young Living Premium Starter Kit, today we will tackle lemon oil.
When it comes to essential oils, everybody has their favorites, and lemon oil is one of my favorites. Not only is it a very affordable essential oil, but it has so many uses and it just plain smells amazing! Lemon oil is strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Here are 10 ways we use Lemon essential oil at our house.
Nausea
This may just be me, but this last pregnancy, I was quite nauseous. I figured it couldn’t hurt to try something different since I didn’t want to get sick, so I started keeping the bottle of lemon oil in my pocket and just inhaling it when I started feeling sick.
Remove glue, adhesive or crayon
Having a 2 and 4 year old and a lot of friends around, there is a good chance that we will find crayon or sticker residue on the floor or the wall on occasion. Use 1-2 drops of lemon oil to help remove that.
Clean and Sanitize
Adding 2-3 drops of lemon oil to a spray bottle of water, you can clean around the house and it smells so good!
Improve your mood
Either by adding a few drops to a cotton ball or simply inhaling this fresh scent, you can revitalize your mind, body and spirit.
Clean your carpets
Add 10–15 drops of lemon essential oil to a gallon of carpet cleaning solution to help pull out stains, brighten carpet and rugs, and leave a fresh smell in the room.
Deoderize your refrigerator
Place a few drops of lemon oil on a cotton ball and place it in the fridge to help eliminate odors.
Balance your skin
Add a drop to your skin to help balance and minimize oil production.
Add to water
Add a drop or two of lemon oil to your water or tea for a refreshing pick me up.
Help eliminate coughs
By mixing with a carrier oil and applying on the neck, or rubbing on the feet, or even diffusing it, this can help kick that cough. We use this a lot in the diffuser in the kids’ room if they have a cough.
Cooking
Lemon oil can be used in cooking for marinades to add that delicious lemon flavor.
When applying lemon oil to the skin, direct exposure of that area of the skin to sunlight should be avoided for at least 12 hours.
Edited to add: My niece had tons of blackheads in her ears. I applied a drop of lemon oil to the tip of a q-tip and rubbed it on the blackheads. Within 2 days, almost all of them were gone. This was after they had tried multiple other things with no results.
