#clothdiaperbloghop How to convert a friend to cloth

It's that time of week again for Cloth Diaper 101 hosted by Julie over at My Cloth Diaper Stash.   This weeks topic:  How to convert a friend to cloth.I wish I could say proudly that I have converted many people to cloth diapers, but I haven't.  I can actually only think of one person that I have converted to cloth diapers.  It was remarkably easy!  She saw all of Maggie's cute little diapers, and we talked about it a few times and she mentioned that it didn't seem worth the cost for her when her son was 2 already.  Can't say I disagree, but guess what, I offered up some of our diapers, and she said yes!  Now, that little dude is potty trained, but hey, every little bit helps, right?  I had another friend that tried them on the trial package from the local cloth diaper store.  It didn't work out for them and the owner of the store had no idea how to process the money back because nobody had ever done it!  I thought that was pretty funny.  I know there are a few other friends of mine that I have offered up some diapers to, but they haven't picked them up yet, so we will see.  I don't try all that hard to convert people, but I answer their questions about them right away and always offer up some diapers for them to check out.  I love when people see them and comment on their cuteness level, because it gives me a reason to talk about them, hehe.  Now, even John tries to convert people to cloth because he loves how much we save.  We have been super duper broke for a few months and it's nice not having to buy diapers for 2 kids when we don't have the extra money.  I actually try to have different styles of diapers with me when we go out so that if somebody asks, I have lots of different examples.  I like for people to see how easy they can be and how similar to disposables they are, yet so much better!   Have you converted friends to cloth diapers?  How did you convince them?Want to hear how others converted people to cloth diapers?  Be sure to hop around to the other blogs on the linky.

Going green

When my daughter was born back in October, I wasn't even thinking of cloth diapers. The thought had never crossed my mind. For some reason when she was about 4 months old, I got this idea in my head to try out cloth diapers and I have never looked back. I found this terrific website after all of my researching, Kelly's Closet. The website was the easiest and had the most options. I ordered my first cloth diapers, all pocket diapers. I wasn't sure what to expect, I agonized over what to order the first time. I wanted an all in one, or something similar. There were so many different styles and brands, and then all of the colors and prints to choose from! So much fun deciding, yet so difficult when I limited myself to only 4 until I knew if I would stick with it. I ordered a FuzziBunz, Happy Heinys, Knickernappies, and a Bum Genius. I loved them all! The FuzziBunz was my immediate favorite for the fit and trimness. The Happy Heiny's that I ordered was the absolute cutest design and I love putting it on her. As soon as we got them prepped, I put them on her and loved them all! I immediately began adding more to my shopping cart for my next order. I am currently up to about 15 diapers, many different brands, and love them all. I love when people see her diapers and are so curious. Not to mention how fun it is to look at her cute little fluffy butt in all of her cute diapers!

Real Simple Real Diapers Week - Cloth Diapering 101

I will be the first to say, when I made the decision to use cloth diapers, I was a bit overwhelmed.  We didn't start using cloth diapers until our daughter was at least 4 months old, but I don't think it was quite that young.I work from home and thought, why not.  I began researching diapers and realized there were quite a lot of choices to make!  What style diapers, pockets, AIO's, prefolds, etc.  Then I had to decide what brand.  How many diapers do I need to get?  So many questions and I didn't know where to look for answers.  There were so many places to look and so much information, so many reviews, and I couldn't make sense of it all.I kept calling John and it was driving him crazy.  I was surprised by the initial investment moneywise.  I was limited to 4 diapers to start.  Then I couldn't decide, should I order a bunch of one brand, or all different ones?  In the end, I decided to start with 4 different brands.  The only thing I was sure of was that I wanted One Size Diapers.  That made the most sense to me.  I figured, okay, I will order a few different brands and then decide what I want to build my stash out of....and what did that really mean to me at the time anyways. The lingo can be confusing at first.  I ended up ordering through Kelly's Closet.  I was a sucker for the promotion of a free diaper and they have a huge selection!  When I got the diapers in the mail, I still had no idea what to do with them.  I was excited to use them though.  I felt "cool" because I was going to put cloth diapers on my daughter.  They were so darn cute!  Our first diapers were a Fuzzibunz in Crushed Berries which is still one of our favorites, a Bum Genius (which was also the free diaper I received), a Knickernappies, and a Happy Heiny's.  I put them on her every day and then used disposables.   Pretty much right off the bat, I would save the cloth diapers for people to see when we were going to be out somewhere, do you see the addiction beginning?I quickly learned that I would never decide on just one brand!  There are too many to choose from.  Slowly, we built our stash so that she could wear cloth all day long.  Now, we have at least 50 diapers.  I am thoroughly addicted! What I think you should know if you are considering using cloth diapers....Start small.  You don't have to make a final decision right away.  Get a few and see what works for you. If there is a local store, go there and check it out.  I wish I had known there was one close by.  It probably wouldn't have taken me a week to make a decision if I could have seen them.It is a lot of trial and error.  Ask questions.  Find the website that you feel supports you.  For me, it was diapershops.com facebook page.  They are fantastic and very helpful!Be prepared to be addicted!!!!
