#FromBellyToBaby *Organic Caboose review*

I have a confession:  Charlie has turned me into a fitted diaper fan.  I never thought that would happen.  When I first started shopping for cloth diapers, I didn’t understand why you would buy a diaper that you also needed a cover for.  With my daughter, I still couldn’t see why you would do that.  Then, along came Charlie man.  Now, we NEED fitted diapers.  I was lucky enough to have received a few different fitted newborn diapers to review and one of them was from Organic Caboose.
Organic Caboose was started in 2004 by a mom who realized that she loved her little boy too much to continue to work out of the home.  She envisioned an organic diapering line that would promote “the health of our future.”  The only problem….she didn’t know how to sew.  Fortunately, her mom did, and off they went, sewing side by side.
As her business grew, she found more women interested in sewing products out of their homes.  She began cutting fabric and delivering the pieces to the local women. Then, each product was inspected for quality and shipped to the eager moms.  Today, Organic Caboose continues to manufacture in the US and the product line is growing and evolving based upon customer requests.  They uphold their legacy of creating only the highest quality organic and eco-friendly products for baby and parents.

I received the Organic Caboose newborn snap fitted diaper. My first thought was – man, this is a really soft diaper!  This diaper has a snap closure with a snap down umbilical scoop.  It is designed for newborns 5 – 13 pounds and is Made in the USA.  There are 8 snaps across the front of the diaper to adjust to those little waists.  4 snaps on each side with the umbilical snaps in between the center ones.  Each wing has 2 snaps.  I like that the wing snaps are close together so that as baby gets bigger and needs to be on the larger end of the waist snaps, the back wing snap won’t dig into your little ones skin.  This makes the diaper fit longer which is a huge benefit.

I love the umbilical snapdown on the diaper.  We were comfortable using this on our little Charlie man right away.  We only used it a few times with the snap down since our little guy lost his cord stump at 5 days.  This diaper got a lot of use on Charlie because he has such sensitive skin!  He gets rashes so quickly, so it was comforting knowing he had organic materials against his sensitive skin.

I love that this diaper is an all in one.  The soaker is completely sewn into the diaper.  In many of our diapers, this led to longer drying times, but with this diaper, it dried just as quickly as any of our other diapers.  I love how trim this diaper is and how well it fits under any of our covers.  I do wish the soaker of the diaper was a bit more absorbent though, it wasn’t able to make it through the night with the little guy without adding something else to it.  We used dry wipes which worked, but weren’t super absorbent either.  For extra absorbency that will really help, you can purchase a slimline doubler and fold it in half.
I like the stretchy fabric that allows you to get a perfect fit and never leaves red marks on those precious little legs or belly.  This diaper is really well made and I know it will last through the other 3 children we want with no troubles at all. The tag is sewn into the diaper below the cord snap down so it won’t rub on babies skin and irritate baby.

To prep the diaper before first using it, it does take more time than some diapers – it needs to be washed and dried at least 4 – 5 times before using.  Organic cotton contains natural oils that will repel urine, so this extra prepping is very important.  After 8 – 10 wash and dries, this diaper will reach maximum absorbency.
The only thing I did not like about this diaper was that the backs of the snaps across the front are pressing against his little tummy while he wears the diaper and there were times it would leave imprints of the circles on his belly.  I would love if there was an extra bit of fabric sewn over the backs of the buttons to prevent this.

Overall, I love this diaper and will add more to my stash for the next baby when it is time.  I will also be purchasing a few slimline doublers next time as well to see if they help this diaper make it through the night.  It is very easy to use and daddy friendly.  *This diaper requires a cover to be completely waterproof.*

Organic Caboose has much more than just cloth diapers to offer.  They offer organic bedding, organic diaper covers, nursing, sleep sacks, and more!  If you love organic products, be sure to check out what Organic Caboose has to offer.  You won’t be disappointed.
