Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! You are suppose to be silly, dress up and have fun; right up my alley! But the fun doesn’t have to only last a day, you can celebrate the holiday all month long with fun meal ideas. We had a blast searching pinterest and coming up with our own ideas for halloween themed bento lunches.
We made:
~Bat and Spider shaped sandwiches
~An orange and grape spider
~BOO spelled out using carrots and tomatoes
~Mummy lunch with croissant hot dogs and banana ghosts
~String cheese and pretzel brooms; apple, peanut butter and mini marshmallow smiles; carrots dipped in ranch
~Cheez-It BOO; orange & green pepper pumpkin; and string cheese and salami mummy
~Carrot and celery pumpkin; alternating string cheese and peanut butter & mini chocolate chip sandwich mummies
All fun, yummy and 100% fun. Maggie got excited every day just waiting to see what fun mommy was serving up. Do you just love the containers we used? Check out my review of the Ecolunchbox below.
We are home most of the time for lunch time, but we like to have options for when we are out and about. When I stumbled upon ECOlunchbox, I loved that these would be perfect for John to take his lunch to work in too. All made from 100% stainless steel, they are non-toxic and plastic free, lead-free, BPA free, and phthalate-free. We were lucky enough to receive some goodies from ECOlunchbox to review and share with you. We received: the ECOlunchbox 3 in 1, ECOdipper snack container, and the ECOlunchbox solo cube. Just imagine the fun lunch combinations we can create with this many options!
The ECOdipper snack container is 1 1/2″ deep, and 3 1/2″ in diameter. It will fit the equivalent of 1/2 cup of “damp” foods. It is absolutely perfect for things like nuts, berries, raisins, and so much more. I love this container. It works wonderfully for us, whether for my trail mix, or the kids’ snacks. It holds just enough that they can share the container for snack time.
The ECOlunchbox solo cube is 5 1/4 inches square and 1 7/8 inches deep. If you are a sandwich eater, this is perfect for you. You can make that thick, delicious, packed with goodness sandwich, and it will fit. And….it won’t be squished! The stainless steel container can just be dropped into your bag and it will come out looking the same. After all, who likes squished sandwiches! But don’t stop there, you can fill it with berries, pasta, or – perfect for a lot of those halloween bento lunches we made. This container is perfect for my kids, I can fit their entire lunch into one container, drop it in the diaper bag and hit the road.
The ECOlunchbox Three in One might just be my favorite for a few reasons. First, with 3 pieces, it’s very customizable. Use one or use two, or use them all, together or separately. Second, it’s compact because the containers nest inside each other; and it holds a lot of food. It comes complete with: an upper food container, lower food container, and the ECOlunchpod. The upper container and the ECOlunchpod can both be used separately. However, the lower container cannot be used alone {at least, if you want it covered it can’t}. At home, we use it a lot. The 3 containers, once nested together, close securely. The ECOlunchpod is handy for stick veggies like celery and carrots, yet, still great for berries, nuts, crackers, pretzel sticks, cheese cubes and a gazillion other things. It’s a great snack container for my little people to use, measuring 4″ by 2 1/2″ and 1 1/2″ tall. It is also a fantastic dip container when packed nested in the top container. Put the dip, whether it’s ranch, peanut butter, hummus or {fill in the blank} into the ECOlunchpod, and the accompanying food, carrots, veggies, apples, chips, etc. into the top container. Put the lid on and go!
Want to add in a sandwich? More fruits or veggies? Put that into the bottom container and next them all together. Good to go! The top container is 4″ by 5 1/2″ and 1 1/2″ deep. The bottom container is 1″ deep and can fit many sandwiches, depending on the size of the bread.
Did I mention that all of your food will stay unsquished? I won’t lie…..I have thrown away sandwiches before because they are smashed.
While the containers can hold liquids, such as soup, applesauce, or whatever else you are thinking up, they are not 100% leakproof. Because they are stainless steel with no gaskets or seals when tipped.
We love our ECOlunchbox products and they are constantly getting washed because we use them every. single. day. Because of that, I’m so glad that they are dishwasher safe! You can even heat them up in a medium heat oven, no higher than 350 {no microwaves}. If you really want to have fun, decorate them; make them “you”. I keep debating on letting Maggie puffy paint or sticker them just for fun, but not so sure John would appreciate that! Stainless steel not your thing? Check out the cotton, plastic free lunch bags.
