My entire life, my family has been big on camping. It’s definitely something that we have always enjoyed doing and hope to pass on to our children. I love fishing and swimming, but I think my favorite part has always been playing games at the end of the day. Or, maybe it’s the S’mores that we make over the campfire that I love so much.
When I heard of this game, I definitely wanted to check it out. It sounded like a fun game that I would be able to play with all of my kiddos as they grow. I had been planning on playing it with my niece since she is 6 years old, but as it turned out, I haven’t seen her recently. I did, however, make John sit down and play it with me. I have also played it with Maggie, although, since she’s only 2, I had to play it a little bit differently.
S’mores is a card game that is easy for young kids to play. The object is simple: get the 4 ingredients you need to make a S’mores. You get a higher point value based on the quality of ingredients. For instance, you need a marshmallow for your S’mores, it could be uncooked, burnt, or perfect. Each one is worth a different amount of points.
There are also filler cards that aren’t worth anything, but need to be replaced with parts for the S’mores.
There are bonus cards that add to your point value.
There are also action cards that subtract from your point value.
What does that mean? If more than one of you gets S’mores, the highest point value wins.
On your turn, you can draw and discard one, or ask another player to fan em and take a card from their hand and replace it with yours.
I love how simple the game is to learn and play, so your kids will be able to catch on really quickly. The cards are quite big – 3 x 5 and very sturdy. I wasn’t worried about letting my 2 year old spread them out on the floor and play her own game with them. When Maggie plays with us, we just make it a matching game. She’s catching on to that. The game is designed for ages 6+ and for 2-6 players, so your kids can even play with their friends. Added bonus: the cards are printed with soy based ink on recycled paper.
For only $5.99, you have a game your whole family can play when you are out camping, and it doesn’t take up much room.
