Lovely Pocket Diaper Rave *Review and Giveaway*

I have a secret…..shhhh……I love cloth diapers! Well guess what…so does Melissa.  And as it turns out, both her kids and mine are the same ages!  So I love knowing that she is going through the same things that I am – at least to some extent!  When her daughter was born on Thanksgiving day 2010, 2 weeks later she began using prefolds with her.  She began researching cloth diapers and learned about pocket diapers…and she had to have them!  The only problem?  She wasn’t willing to pay the money for them.  After researching and testing, she found a manufacturer she liked and began her journey.

We received the Rave diaper in Red Rave to review. The Rave comes with one triple layer microfiber insert.

So, what’s the scoop with the Rave?  Well, there is a double row of waist snaps all the way across – 10 snaps across in two rows!  Wow!  Do you know what that means?  A great fit every time!  With so many options, you are sure to find a terrific fit!  There are no crossover snaps, and while it gets pretty small, if you have a teeny little one, you may have to wait a bit for baby to wear it.  Just an observation as I have no experience with a teeny tiny baby in this diaper, my guy was over 8 lbs at birth!

There are only 2 snaps on each wing, a top and bottom snap.  John loves this – he hates when a diaper has 3 or 4 snaps, so I would say that makes this diaper a bit daddy friendly!   The rise snaps allow for four different size options to fit babies from 8-35 pounds.  Charlie is 16 pounds and on the 2nd smallest setting and Maggie is 22 pounds, and on the 2nd largest setting, so I can see the diaper working for the full range of 8 – 35 pounds.  I really like that the snaps are reinforced with an extra layer of fabric.

I love the double leg gussets!  Another daddy friendly feature!

This is one of his favorite diaper features!  When he reaches for a diaper, he tends to reach for ones with the double gussets.  There are water proof flaps at the front and the back of this diaper.  Because they are waterproof, that helps prevent wicking because all of the material is tucked away, and what isn’t is waterproof!

The back of the diaper is gathered in the middle (see pictures).  At first I thought that it would make it uncomfortable for the little ones, but instead it creates a nice snug fit on their back so there won’t be any up the back incidents!  Plus, because of the way it is gathered, when you take it off, it creates a wide opening to pull the insert out.  I have forgotten to take the insert out before, and it often agitates itself out.  I do wish it was a snap in insert – I have become quite spoiled with some of my diapers having the option to snap in.

The outer shell of the diaper is silky smooth with the waterproof polyurethane laminate (PUL) on the inside.  The inner material on the diaper is made of super soft microsuede which won’t pill.  Plus, the stay dry fabric keeps baby’s tush dry and helps prevent diaper rashes from moisture on their little tush.

We haven’t had any leaks with our Rave, on either of the kiddos.  We were able to get a great fit every time!  I am however, not a big fan of microfiber inserts, I prefer bamboo, and lucky for me, I can purchase some bamboo inserts from Lovely Pocket Diapers!  And at only $12.00 for solids and $12.50 for prints, they are very affordable.  If you are looking for a cloth diaper that you can afford to build your stash out of, these are a great option.
