Some common and not so common uses for coconut oil {Giveaway}

After so many months of hearing how wonderful Coconut Oil is, I finally took the plunge to give it a try.  It sounded like the cure-all for just about whatever I could need it for, so it can’t hurt to have it around, right?  Coconut Oil has many different uses I just had to try it.

Cooking uses

  1. Cooking at high heat.  Coconut oil doesn’t become toxic like some oils.
  2. Oven baked sweet potato chips {I am so trying these – yum!}  Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Thinly slice sweet potatoes to about 1/8″ thick.  Places slices on a baking sheet and brush lightly with coconut oil.  Bake for about 15 minutes or until chips are lightly brown.  Add salt if you want.  Can be eaten plain or served with salsa or dip.
  3. Replace vegetable oil in recipes with coconut oil.
  4. Use in place of butter.
  5. Homemade coconut granola.

Skin Care

  1. Shaving lotion – works as a moisturizer at the same time.
  2. Body Scrub
  3. Homemade deoderant – I am trying this!
  4. Homemade lip balm – trying this one too!  I go through a ton of chapstick.
  5. Diaper rash cream
  6. Nipple cream for breastfeeding
  7. Mix it in the bathwater and soak in it.

Hair Care

  1. Leave in conditioner – trying this too, I have a lot of hair!
  2. Tame those flyways

Other uses

    1. Natural toothpaste.
    2. Aromatherapy
    3. Protecting a cut or scrape.  We have used it this way a lot since Maggie is constantly falling and scraping her knees.
    4. Feed it to your dog or cat.
